Sagolband MLA RK Imo Singh on Friday stated that he was expelled from the Congress party despite complying with the whip and also voting in favour of the party on August 10 against the confidence motion raised by the BJP-led state government while participating in the proceedings of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

A release signed by RK Imo stated it is very unfortunate for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to expel him from the party on Thursday without assigning any reason. The MPCC had no reason whatsoever to expel him “in such a gross and arbitrary manner under the whims and fancies of CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh,” it stated.

“If at all, I was to be expelled, it should have been done after the RS Election when I voted for the Maharaja, and not now after having voted for Congress in the Assembly Session,” it stated.

Imo asserted that the act shows Ibobi’s personal vendetta against him and his family, which goes long back to the time when he was denied the Congress party ticket to contest the assembly election in 2007 and 2012 under the CLP leader’s personal whims.

“It was only in 2014, my party Manipur State Compress Party (MSCP) merged with INC after due permission and approval from Rahul Gandhi just before the LS election,” Imo added.

Despite that, preference was always given to the then Congress candidate over an elected MLA in spite of being the person who led the merger, Imo continued. “I was always sidelined despite being a third generation Congressman,” it added.

The release stated that he was served with the show cause notice on July 27 and subsequently removed from the INC party WhatsApp group, even before his expulsion from the INC was issued on Thursday, though he was still an MLA in the Congress party.

Imo claimed that he was questioned by a Congress MLA for attending the Legislative Assembly proceedings on August 10 and was about to be summoned out of the Assembly Session on the pretext that he has attended the session after going to Delhi, which could have led to his disqualification for not attending the session, though this was done purely to comply with the INC party whip.

He appealed to the Congress MLAs to give priority to the seriousness of COVID-19 pandemic, “rather than blindly serving the false dream of the CLP leadership which stills want to move for another no-confidence motion at the cost of the people of Manipur with only about 15 MLAs now”.
