Don't block roads, wage war against drugs during pandemic: AMUCO

Local clubs and meira paibis must proceed with war against drugs instead of blocking roads, says the All Manipur United Club Organisation.

The All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) on Wednesday appealed to the local clubs and meira paibis to proceed war against drugs instead of blocking roads during the pandemic period of COVID-19.

A release signed by the assistant secretary of AMUCO MM Thambou said that the pandemic period of COVID-19 is the best time for war against drugs and to eradicate the trends of using psychotropic drugs in the society.

"If we take up certain measures and prevent uses of drugs in the society during this pandemic period, it will be a gift given by the coronavirus," the AMUCO said.

Regarding the shuffling of political parties and resignation of some MLAs and minister, it said that AMUCO lost hope today's politician will pave a path for better future.

Claiming that there will be some political gathering in some constituency where there will be by-election and in the upcoming municipality and nagar panchayat election, the release said that there is a big apprehension that the gathering will not follow the SOP and will be using alcohol and other psychotropic substances.

The release also appealed to the government to instruct the police department to conduct a mass drive against drugs and alcohol.
