The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) extended its gratitude to Union Road and Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari for giving approval of Rs 3,000 crore financial packages for 13 projects on renovation of national highways of Manipur.
Speaking to the media at its office located at Babupara, Imphal, convener of MDA M Tombi said MDA welcomes the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Act East Policy may not bring development in the country without bringing development in northeastern states including Manipur.
In a video conference with Chief Minister N Biren, Nitin assured to upgrade the National Highway Number 37, Imphal to Jiribam road to four lanes. Under the previous government, the road conditions of NH-37 were not good when compared to that of the present government led by N Biren, he said.
With the coming of the present government, one can now travel from Imphal to Jiribam within a day when it took about three days during the previous governments, he added.
The hanging bridge of Barak and Makru along NH-37 are being renovated into RCC bridges and it is said that the said two bridges will be handed over to the public by the end of this year, said Tombi.
MDA extended its gratitude towards chief minister and works minister, Th Biswajit for their initiatives taken for the welfare of the people in the short period of time, he added.
Road condition of Imphal-Moreh national highway is becoming better and it has been the lifeline of many daily wages earners, he said. Apart from bringing development in national highways, a central sports university has been established. For bringing such development, MDA appreciates both the state and Central government, said Tombi.
