The Manipur government has announced to an insurance scheme for healthcare workers fighting against COVID-19 under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP).
An office memorandum issued by the secretariat, Health department stated that under PMGKP, insurance scheme for health workers who are involved in managing the coronavirus outbreak in the state will be given life insurance of Rs 50 lakh.
The insurance will cover public health providers, including community health workers, who may have to directly contact and give care to COVID-19 patients, it said. The insurance will also be provided to those who are at risk of being impacted by the virus, it added.
It mentioned that the scheme will also be available to private hospital staff and retired/volunteer/local urban bodies/contracted/daily wage/ outsourced staff requisitioned by state or central hospital/ autonomous hospital s of central/ states/UTs, AIIMS, INIs/hospitals of central ministries.
