Manipur COVID-19 death toll climbs to 17

One more COVID-19 patient at RIMS succumbed to the disease late Sunday.

Manipur COVID-19 death toll has reached 17 with one more patient succumbing to the disease at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), official sources said Monday.

A 48-year-old COVID-19 victim from Kiyamgei, Imphal East succumbed to the disease around 8 pm Sunday at RIMS Covid care facility, RIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Ch Arunkumar Singh said.

The Medical Superintendent stated that the patient was admitted at RIMS on August 13 and he suffered multiple health problems such as chronic kidney disease, anaemia, hypertension, high blood pressure and diabetes.

On Sunday, the state health department reported three deaths, a 94-year-old man from Thoubal district, 73-year-old man from Imphal West, and 44-year-old BSF man from Korengei.

Meanwhile, in a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room on Monday, additional director and spokesperson of the state Health Department, Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang said that in the past 24 hours, 94 person (53 male and 41 female) from general population and 24 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were tested COVID-19 positive cases. All the cases of general population are locals without any significant travel history.

They are being shifted to the COVID Care Facility, he said. All necessary medical precautionary like containment measures and contact tracing are in place, he added. He also stated that in the past 24 hours, 102 persons were discharged after they were found COVID-19 free from RTPCR test. They are from CAPF-7, RIMS-5, CCC Lamboikhong Nang Khong-81, Kasom-8 and  Senapati-11.

Dr Mangang also stated that cumulative number of positive cases is 4687 (general population 347 and central security personnel 1216). Of which, 2734 has been discharged and 1931 are in active cases. The recovery rate is 58.33 per cent. The release also mentioned helpline numbers which are available round the clock.
