Manipur COVID-19 tally rises to 3,982; 41 more test positive

Manipur on Wednesday reported 41 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 3,982, including 1,739 active cases and 12 deaths, official sources said.

Of the 41 new COVID-19 cases, 34 cases -19 males and 14 females, are from the general population while seven cases are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, according to a  release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room..

The new cases from the general population included 13 from Imphal West, six from Thoubal, five from Noney, four from Kamjong, three from Kakching, one each from Imphal East and Churachandpur, the release stated, adding that seven out of the general population are returnees from other states and the rest 27 are locals without any significant travel history.

The new COVID-19 patients are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures are in place, Additional director and spokesperson of the state health department Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang stated.

A total of 76 persons have been discharged in the past 24 hours after they were found COVID-19  free on RT PCR test. With it, the cumulative number of discharged cases rose to 2,231. The recovery rate is 56.02 per cent, the release added.

Dr Mangang further stated that the state government has constituted a 24x7 Hospitalization Helpline Number 1800-103-2015 operated through State Health Agency (SHA). "In the past three days, SHA attended to more than 250 cases. Any person facing difficulty to get emergency services or admission in hospital, may contact the toll free number for assistance," Dr Mangang stated.

Meanwhile, Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Neeta Arambam has declared Moirangkhunou Maning Leikai  as a containment zone after a resident tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The deputy commissioner in his order stated that in view of the impending threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the area, it has become expedient to issue containment measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.

The areas are sealed with immediate effect with restriction in entry and exit. Order has also been issued for closure of schools and offices, and public gathering in any type and vehicular movement have been banned in the area.
