In the wake of the Asian Highway No 1 road eviction in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, several displaced villages wait for full compensation from the government. In view of it, the Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland (SDFK), a militant outfit in the state, coming to the rescue of the villagers, has urged the concerned authority and department of the Asian Highway No 1 road eviction to compensate the affected villages or face “drastic action”.
SDFK information and publicity secretary S Kuki said in a release that it is very unfortunate to learn that the affected villages of AH-1 road eviction in Tengnoupal district were not fully compensated by the concerned authority or department.
Kuki said many villages and households were neglected/left out from the beneficiary list and some affected villages were not compensated properly. He also said that some affected villages also did not sign the NOC paper due to minimal compensation amounts.
The outfit asked why proper rules and guidelines are not applied to the evicted villages and households and urged the authority and department concerned to take the matters seriously and take necessary action at the earliest in the larger interest of the affected villages.
It also warned that if the appeal is neglected and the grievances of affected villages are not redressed in time, it will be compelled to take up drastic actions. The department concerned shall take full responsibility of the outcome, it added.
