With the reports that inking of the final Naga Peace agreement is expected to take place on August 15 based on the talk between Centre and various groups of NSCN including NSCN (IM) held on 7 August 2020 at New Delhi, UCM has made it clear that the final talks will not be possible if the Centre fails to consult the People of Manipur before any final agreement is made.

A statement issued by secretary, Information and Public Relation, UCM BM Yaima stated that the people of Manipur welcome the initiative of the Centre to resolve the 23-year long pending peace process. However, if the final agreement is made without consulting the various stakeholders of the neighbouring states of Nagaland, and Manipur in particular, UCM and the People of Manipur will not accept any form of settlement. It will not be accepted if the negotiating parties overlook the aspiration of the people of Manipur and the integrity and the identity of the state are at stake, it stated.

UCM reminded the home minister of India, Amit Shah regarding his meeting with the 18 member delegates of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on November 25, 2019 at his official residence, New Delhi in the presence of the minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh and Education Minister Th Radheshyam.

UCM urged the home minister to keep his words regarding the agreement in the meeting and respect the mutual understanding of the meeting if the contentious Naga Peace Talk is to be settled peacefully.

The release further stated that UCM and people of Manipur are not against the peace talks but there will be no compromise on the historical, social, cultural, political and territorial integrity of Manipur.

UCM has been very closely observing the development in Delhi as the anxiety among the masses is getting high after the sudden reports of possible final round of talks on August 15 came out in the media with a surprise that too during this COVID-19 pandemic, said the release.
