A few hours after some COVID-19 patients of the Jawarharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on Wednesday came out against the hospital administration over poor food and drinking water supply to them, the hospital announced that breakfast for COVID-19 patients will be improved.
The concerned hospital authority said that it would provide a boiled egg and a small packet of biscuit and a litre packaged drinking water to each patient.
For lunch, rice, dal, vegetable curry and other items, including egg and fish curry with one litre of packaged drinking water will be provided from tomorrow onwards, said a release issued by Medical Superintendent T Rajen Singh.
Dinner items starting today will be egg, fish curry, dal and vegetables with two bottles of drinking water, it stated. It also mentioned that all the patients will be provided four litres of water instead of three bottles.
As per the proceedings of the emergency held on Wednesday, a thorough discussion about the improvement of mess supplied to the patients, including COVID-19 patients, were made and the resolutions were adopted unanimously, it stated.
Before lockdown, the patients were provided breakfast with one boiled egg and three slices of bread and one bottle of packaged drinking water, the release stated. Due to the lockdown, bread was no longer available and therefore, one boiled egg with one bottle of packaged drinking water was supplied to the covid patients, it added.
A video footage of the patient outrage went viral on Wednesday. Several COVID-19 positive patients who are undergoing treatment at JNIMS stormed out of COVID care wards on Wednesday, demanding proper and quality food to be provided to them on time.
