'Community participation is tool to prevent community transmission'

Nemcha Kipgen exhorted the people to be responsible individually by following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Considering the alarming situation of community transmission in Kangpokpi district, Social Welfare and Cooperation minister, Nemcha Kipgen held an emergency review meeting on Tuesday at Conference Hall, DC office, Kangpokpi.

The review meeting chaired by the minister was attended Kangpokpi DC, Somorjit Salam, Kangpokpi SP, Hemant Pandey, CMO, Dr. Nilakanta Singh, additional SP, Lalminlen Misao, all SDOs, SDCs, AC to DC, officials from various other departments including PHED, MSPDCL, CAF&PD, etc.

Stressing the need to embark on stringent measures with the alarming situation of community transmission in the district, Nemcha Kipgen directed the DC to create intensive awareness to the community leaders to prevent further spread of the disease in the district.

She also said that the government needs to make aware the community leaders about the alarming situation as well as measures to prevent further spread of the disease through community transmission.

After putting heads together and thorough deliberation, it was decided that awareness video and audio in the multilingual shall be made at the earliest and circulated to all the community leaders for disseminating among the public in their respective places.

The minister also exhorted the people to be responsible individually by following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) given by the government and other preventive measures considering the alarming situation with a commitment to stop the spread of the virus further.

“Situation has come to the extent that only the government will no longer be able to prevent the spread of the dreaded virus as there is an alarming situation of local transmission where community itself becomes the only tool to tackle and prevent the spread of the virus”, asserted Nemcha Kipgen.

She also appealed to all the community leaders to come forward and render utmost cooperation towards the district administration, medical department, district police and all frontline workers with a sole motive to overcome the deadly pandemic and most importantly the spread of the dreaded virus among the community.

Nemcha Kipgen instructed the PHE department to ensure proper water supply at the newly inaugurated COVID Care Centre and asked the MSPDCL department to ensure adequate power supply while many other important issues were also discussed during the meeting.

Later, the minister met the leaders of local women body and youth leaders at the emergency food kiosk for stranded people and motivated them to continue their selfless service despite tremendous challenges while ensuring to meet their requirements in their service towards humanity.
