Government yet to announce, but COVID-19 community transmission started: Manipur Speaker Y Khemchand

The Manipur government is yet to announce community transmission in the state, but it has already started, Speaker Y Khemchand said in Imphal on Sunday.
“Time has come to understand the coronavirus and to overcome it and how to survive along with the virus by protecting ourselves from the virus,” the speaker said while speaking at a valedictory ceremony of community quarantine centre of Manipur College, Singjamei Assembly constituency, held on Sunday.
The function was organised by the Quarantine Management Committee, Manipur College, Singjamei. The said quarantine centre was started on May 3 and closed on Sunday.
Khemchand, who is also a local MLA of the Singjamei constituency, the number of COVID-19 infection has been increasing since thousands of stranded people have returned to the state in the last three months. The death toll is also increasing, he said.
So far, the state has recorded 2,756 COVID-19 positive cases and six fatalities as of Saturday.
The speaker said that death toll due to COVID-19 has been increasing but the origin of COVID-19, China has managed to cope with it as its COVID-19 status ranking dropped near to the bottom.
Khemchand then said that people of the state also need to take initiative without waiting for the government’s initiatives to fight with COVID-19.
There might be many COVID-19 infected persons in the state who are yet to be tested, but the number of infected persons recovering from the illness are rising, Khemchand said.
The recovered were not due to consumption of medicine but they recovered after strengthening the immune system, he said.
The speaker expressed his gratitude towards the volunteers of the quarantine center for taking initiatives while serving the returnees.
In the said centre, a total of 316 inmates were kept and not a single positive case was detected, according to official data. In view of it, the inmates were handed over certificates by Khemchand and other dais members.
