Manipur reported five more COVID-19 positive cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 44 and active cases to 40, officials said on Wednesday.
Two patients, out of the five new cases, hailed from Thoubal district and had recently returned from Bengaluru and Gujarat. They were tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday night at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL), RIMS, Additional Director, Health Deaprtment, Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang confirmed.
Of the 44 total COVID-19 cases in Manipur, while four have recovered and discharged from hospital, Churachandpur has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state with 19 cases. According to DSO Dr Ngahneikim Haokip, 17 COVID-19 patients returned from Chennai.
On Tuesday, the total number of confirmed cases in the state was 39 with three new cases from Imphal West, according to the state health department. A total of 454 samples were tested at RIMS on Tuesday, Dr Mangang informed.
Till date, a total of 6,834 people have been tested for the virus at the VRDL of both JNIMS and RIMS in Imphal, health officials said.
A total of 2,20,438 people, including air passengers, have been screened for coronavirus in Manipur as per the status report issued on Tuesday by state surveillance officer Dr L Tomcha Khuman of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP).
