Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister Biren Singh on Friday extended their wishes to the people of Manipur, especially to the Muslim brethren, on the occasion of Id-ul-Adha.
In her message, the governor stated that Id-ul-Adha meaning the ‘festival of sacrifice’ signifies the spirit of sacrifice rising above the narrow barriers of one’s ego and self-interest for the good of all. The festival promotes tolerance, harmony and goodwill amongst different communities, it stated.
“On this sacred occasion, let us forget our differences and usher in an era of peace and harmony in Manipur,” it stated.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh in his message stated that Id-ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice which falls in the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijah, is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in India and the world. It commemorates the ancient story of great faith and sacrifice made by prophet Ibrahim in the form of his son Ismail to God, it stated.
“Considering the prevailing situation of COVID-19 infection in the state, I once again exhort the people of Manipur to take maximum precaution to stop the spread of the COVID-19. As we all know, avoiding social gathering and maintaining social distancing are the key measures which we all need to observe to break the chain of infection of the dreaded disease. I appeal the people to restrict the celebration by offering ritual prayers in the safety of their homes,” the CM stated.
“Let us once again pledge to protect our community and population through our individual and collective responsible action,” it added.
This festival inculcates charity which is the basic framework for peace, amity, brotherhood and harmony amongst the many communities, stated works Minister Th Biswajit Singh in his message.
“This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted the entire world, presenting an unprecedented challenge before us. Let us once again pledge to contain the spread of the disease by following the standard operating procedures like maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, avoiding large gatherings in the larger interest of the people and the state,” he added.
