The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) which is built on the foundational pillars of access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability will bring a large scale transformational reforms in both school and higher education, Manipur Education Minister Th Radheshyam said.
The policy is aligned to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that aims to transform India into a vibrant knowledge society and knowledge superpower country, Radheshyam said while briefing mediapersons in Imphal.
Asserting that the state government will be implementing the policy soon, the minister said people will witness great changes in the education sector, including infrastructure, teachers and many more.
The minister also said that students in the state will no longer require to pursue higher studies outside the state as when the policy is implemented in the state there will be plenty of scopes and learning opportunities.
Radheshyam also pointed out some salient features of the policy such as introducing vocational courses from class IV, multiple entry and exit points from higher education, the aim to achieve 100 per cent youth and adult literacy, among others.
As the policy includes research studies, the students will become more creative as research studies make them more creative and conduction of classes till V standards will help children in understanding, added the minister.
Radhshyam further said the policy aims to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education including vocational education from 26.3 per cent (2018) to 50 per cent by 2030 and 100 per cent GER for school education by 2030.
Regarding the teacher-education he said that the minimum degree qualification for teaching will be a four year integrated B.Ed. degree in order to make the teacher more qualified.
“Lets take the full opportunity of this policy and make the young minds bring out their hidden talent with maximum potential,” the minister added.
