The women organisation stated in a letter to the DC the sudden skyrocketing prices of essential commodities following the state government's announcement of total lockdown in Manipur.

The rise in price of essential commodities and hoarding of food items has become a “practice” whenever there is lockdown, blockade or bandh in Churachandpur. Immediately after announcement of lockdown or curfew, essential items were unavailable in shops and retail outlets, the CJWO stated.

The letter also stated that non-local businessmen in town areas, suppliers and retailers would stock up food grains and refuse to give them out for sale. And after a couple of days these stocks will be sold at higher, exorbitant price to the consumers.
