The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has urged the state government to come out clean on the status of Covid-19, citing the surge in positive cases without travel history.

The IPSA said in a release that the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on everyone, particularly the frontline workers and the general public. But, the pandemic in the state is far from over with the surge in the positive cases and subsequent imposition of total lockdown and curfew in the entire state, it said.

Against this backdrop, many patients with chronic diseases are taking a back seat as the government has channeled its focus in combating COVID-19 pandemic and this has created an adverse impact, it said.

Patients, who are in need of continued and proper treatment or therapy, are facing a lot of inconveniences. The government should look into the issue seriously and come up with a proper way to address the plight of ailing before the matter gets out of hands, said IPSA.

Further, the state also seriously needs to look into the number of complaints of frontline workers who are deprived of proper protective gears, it said.

The IPSA also observed that banks, both private and government, to refrain from collecting interests from the people who are already in financial difficulties due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

Given the situation, the IPSA said that it is high time the state clearly spells out the status of Manipur on Covid-19 spread.
