COVID-19 cases in Assam rise to 783 as nine more test positive

As many as 25 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday after they tested negative for COVID-19.

Assam on Wednesday reported nine new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 783. While the state has so far reported four COVID-19 deaths, three patients migrated to other states.

Hojai reported five cases, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup Metro, Jorhat reported one case each, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.

" 9 new cases of #COVID19+ reported. 5 Hojai, 1 Nagaon, 1 Morigaon, 1 Kamrup Metro, 1 Jorhat," the minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, as many as 25 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday after they tested negative for COVID-19.

Twenty 22 patients were discharged from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Guwahati, two from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and one from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, (JMCH), the health minister said in another tweet.

"Glad to share that total 25 patients have been discharged today in Assam after being tested #COVID19 negative twice. 22 from MMCH, 2 from SMCH & 1 from JMCH Total discharged patients," Sarma tweeted.

With the 25 being discharged from hospitals, the total recovered cases in Assam stood at 87 and 689 active cases.

A new microbiology laboratory has been set up at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Boragaon, Guwahati. The health minister said that the lab would increase sample testing for COVID-19 in the state.
