Governor Najma Heptulla on Monday stressed the need to plant more trees in Manipur and reminded the citizens of the state the responsibility of all to plant at least one tree per year so that the state can tackle the threats posed by climate change.
“Trees give us life. It is the responsibility of each of us to plant at least one tree per year so that our state becomes green. Climate change is causing threats to the survival of the people. It can only be fought by planting more trees. So that there is more oxygen generated and there is more greenery,” the governor said.
The governor was speaking on the ocassion of Van Mahotsav festival in Imphal on Monday.
As a part of the Van Mahotsav festival, Najma Heptulla planted a ‘Manahi’ sapling at the Raj Bhavan complex, Imphal.
The staff of the governor’s secretariat planted other fruit bearing trees and medicinal plants, including ‘Heigri’, ‘Mayokpha’, ‘Karpoor’, ‘Kabirei’, African Tulip, ‘Bokul’, ‘Haosuk’, ‘Chingthrao’, ‘Chorphon’ etc.
Van Mahotsav is being observed in all districts of the state and the event is being observed by several government functionaries and civil organizations by plantation of tree saplings of various kinds, including fruit bearing and flowering trees.
