Manipur Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi on Monday said that the state government’s policy of tackling COVID-19 is “totally mismanaged” and is taken up without thinking about the future consequences.
Former chief minister Ibobi, while speaking to mediapersons at his official quarter at Babupara in Imphal on Monday, said the Congress party welcomes the announcement of total lockdown in the state but keeping entry and exit restrictions in Thoubal district is a gross violation of human rights.
“What is the agenda of closing the whole Thoubal district instead of keeping restriction only in the locality where there are cases of spreading COVID-19?” the CLP leader asked.
Ibobi further questioned whether there was any order from the Human Resource Development Ministry to restrict the people of Thoubal from entering the premises of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Manipur University, RIMS, JNIMS and other hospitals.
Due to such policy, two persons from Thoubal district were reported dead on Sunday as hospitals refused to give them treatment, Ibobi asserted.
Pointing out the detection of three new COVID-19 cases in the constituency of Health Minister L Jayantakumar, Ibobi asked, ”Will the government restrict all the people of Imphal West from entering RIMS, JNIMS, the state Assembly, MU and restrict people from entering and exiting Imphal West district?”
Ibobi suggested Chief Minister N Biren Singh to keep restrictions only in the locality where there are high cases of COVID-19 spread and conduct COVID-19 tests of the people residing in the restricted area.
