A patient who was admitted at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Private Ltd. (SHRI) following an accident on July 24 tested COVID-19 positive Saturday night at around 9 pm, sources said.
Chairman-cum-managing director of SHRI Dr Khundongbam Palin told Imphal Free Press that the patient was admitted to SHRI after the latter met with an accident on bicycle on July 24 around 7:40 pm.
The patient was to undergo surgery on Sunday but he tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the surgery on July 25, Palin said.
As there is no special facility to treat the COVID-19 patient in Shija and as there are other critical patients which are under treatment in the hospital, the hospital authority had contacted the concerned authority to shift the patient in one of the hospitals with Covid Care Facility. Subsequently, the patient has been shifted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Covid Care Centre, he added.
Dr Palin further said that contact tracing for primary and secondary contacts has been started and the contacts will be tested for COVID-19 at the earliest., the contacts have been advised home quarantine, Palin stated.
The hospital will continue its emergency and OPD services, Dr Palin said, adding that the top floor of the hospital has been sealed for now.
