Lockdown comes into effect at Indo-Myanmar border

On Wednesday, Manipur state cabinet resolved to enforce seven days total lockdown to curb further spread of COVID-19.

The seven days curfew and lockdown, enforced to curb the spread of COVID-19, came into force in Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh from 2 pm of Thursday onwards with the initial few hours witnessing widespread confusion as people scrambled to stock up essential commodities. 

On Wednesday, Manipur state cabinet resolved to enforce the seven days total lockdown which might be extended for seven more days. It was enforced to curb further spread of COVID-19 following the sudden spike of the cases in Thoubal and Jiribam district.

All the shops and business establishments in Moreh brought down their shutters. Post offices and financial institutions like banks, ATMs were also closed on the first day though they were included in the permitted activities during the seven days lockdown. Only a few pharmacies were seen opened. 

Moreh police personnel under the supervision of SP Tengnoupal, Th Vikramjit and additional SP, Sangboi Gangte stepped up surveillance, enforced the curfew and lockdown in and around Moreh. Moreh police used loud speakers reminding the public to remain at homes and prohibit movements.

It may be noted that Moreh Hospital had also been converted to Covid Care Centre (CCC) from Wednesday. All the hospital services and equipment had been shifted to Moreh Primary Health Centre. A lady staff nurse from the Pallel area with a  travel history became the first person to be admitted at the Moreh CCC after testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
