As one Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS) and representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institute (PRI) in Thoubal tested positive for COVID-19, the government has ordered closure of all banks and post offices in the district for the public till July 26.

An order issued by Thoubal DC, N Bandana in this regard said that the GRS and PRI representatives were actively engaged in MGNREGS activities whereby job card verification and freezing of bank accounts are also being simultaneously carried out in banks.

Meanwhile, three daughters and one son of the COVID-19 positive lady GRS, who was posted at Wangkhem gram panchayat under DRDA Thoubal, were confirmed COVID-19 positive on Monday. The husband; however, tested negative.

Altogether, 12 persons were confirmed COVID-19 positive when 80 samples from the district were tested at District Hospital Thoubal. The fresh cases in the district include four each from Thoubal and Lilong and two from Moijing.

It may be mentioned here that the father of one of the two cases from Moijing already tested COVID-19 positive earlier.

After three volunteers working at different community quarantine centres in the district and one VDF personnel tested positive for the virus on July 14, all their contacts have been identified and tested since July 16 at the testing centre at Thoubal District Hospital.

A total of 347 samples have been tested so far till Monday out of which 22 were found positive.

In the wake of the local transmission in the district, the gathering of people in small makeshift markets and other places including government offices have declined.

While all banks and post offices in the district have been directed to be closed for public, the order said that bank staff can attend office to ensure continuity of essential banking services like ATM booths by observing national directives for COVID-19 management strictly.

In the meantime, Thoubal DC, in another statement, said that a Covid Care Centre for the district was opened at GNM School of Nursing on July 12.

Frontline warriors including doctors, nurses, police, driver and caterer among others are actively working 24x7. A total of 38 patients are being put up in the centre and dedicated doctors are taking up requisite measures and strictly monitoring the situation, it said.
