The number of COVID-19 positive cases in India has risen to an alarmingly high number despite the nationwide lockdown and the several prevention-precautionary measures undertaken by the government. As the number continue to surge every day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the step taken by the Central government in imposing nationwide lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic has "failed".

Rahul Gandhi urged the Narendra Modi-led Central government, at a press conference, to clarify its strategy on the way forward for the nation, saying that the COVID-19 is spreading further and the cases are rising across the country daily. Nagaland, which is a green zone, reported one confirmed case yesterday.

"What is the central government's plan to go forward as the disease is growing exponentially in the country," he said, pointing out that the four phases of lockdown imposed in the country has failed to give any result.

"The four stages of lockdown have not given the result that the prime minister expected," he said. He also said that India is the only country in the world which is relaxing lockdown when the spread of the disease is "exponentially rising".

The total death count in the country has crossed 4,000, while the number of COVID-19 positive cases has risen to 1,45,380, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, Nagaland, which was a green zone, reported its first COVID-19 cases in the state.
