Three volunteers among 28 new COVID-19 cases in Manipur

The state reported 28 new COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday

Manipur reported 28 new COVID-19 positive cases, including three volunteers of different community quarantine centres opened in Thoubal district in the last 24 hours since Tuesday. Oone security personnel also tested positive, health officials said on Wednesday.

They include one active member of Anti-Covid Aid Committee of Khangabok assembly constituency, Pradhan of Moijing gram panchayat, who volunteered at Thoubal community quarantine centre and a volunteer at the centre opened under Lilong MLA.

The active member is an elected member of Thoubal Municipal Corporation and looked after the needs of volunteers and arranged money transactions in the community quarantine centre of the assembly constituency. He told this correspondent that his sample was collected on July 11 at Thoubal District Hospital and was confirmed COVID-19 positive at RIMS VRDL on Tuesday.

He further said that he had received treatment for a heart disease about a month ago at JNIMS. As told by him, he was also treated at Mother’s Care Hospital, Sagolband and was discharged on July 8 from the hospital. After this, his sample was tested and confirmed COVID-19 positive.

“So far, I have experienced no COVID-19 symptoms. Two other volunteers who visited the quarantine centre together with me have tested negative. It is quite perplexing how I became positive for the virus,” he added.

According to the latest update from COVID-19 Common Control Room, 11 positive cases were reported from Thoubal district.

The new cases also included a security personnel . The security personnel from Thoubal Moijing was assigned duty at the quarantine centre opened at Thoubal College. The remaining seven individuals were undergoing quarantine at different centres, including one in Imphal West district.

Of the 11 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, nine have been shifted to Covid Care Centre, Thoubal while one has been put up in an isolation ward of Thoubal District Hospital.

The district administration has also taken up steps for testing the contacts of the positive persons.

The government stated that the said four COVID-19 confirmed cases of Thoubal district have a history of being exposed to known local risk factors. However, “There is no evidence of community transmission in the district,” said a release from COVID-19 Common Control Room.

A total of 28 persons were confirmed as new COVID-19 cases. All except the said four cases in Thoubal are returnees from other states and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

As many as 60 more people have been discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.

With these new cases, the cumulative number of positive cases has surged to 1,700 out of which 620 are active and 1,080 have recovered. The recovery rate is 63.52 per cent, it added.
