Churches in Kangpokpi serve returnees in quarantine centres as ‘service to God'

Kuki Baptist Convention Centre Church Kangpokpi volunteered to provide catering service for 15 days after the Kangpokpi Christian Church ended its voluntary catering service to returnees at various institutional quarantine centres for a month.

Churches in Kangpokpi district of Manipur have been actively helping the government’s COVID-19 task force in the district HQ by volunteering to provide catering service to the returnees staying in institutional quarantine centres in the district HQ.

Continuing the Good Samaritan act of serving the returnees, the Kuki Baptist Convention Centre Church Kangpokpi volunteered to provide catering service for 15 days after the Kangpokpi Christian Church ended its voluntary catering service to returnees at various institutional quarantine centres for a month. The service ended on July 4.

The women department, youth department, men department and board of deacon, including the Church Pastor of KBC Centre Church Kangpokpi, were all involved in the voluntary service.

According to church secretary Seiminthang Lupheng, the voluntary service in feeding the inmates of various IQCs at the centralized kitchen at the church is done on roster basis among the women, youth, men department and board of deacon.

The church leader said that the cooking begin as early as 4 am in the morning while it was closed only at 7 pm in the evening after whole day engagement in the catering service. He also said that packaging of food and curry were done by the youth department and the food packages were despatched latest by 9 am in the morning and 4 pm in the afternoon. Dal and egg, including chutney, is the common the menu while Minister Nemcha Kipgen provided 70 kgs of fish for all the inmates on Sunday.

“At present we serve more than 200 inmates at around 13 Institutional Quarantine Centres within the district headquarters and its adjoining areas,” Lupheng said.

Church Pastor, Rev Letpu Kipgen, while speaking on the sidelines of the catering service, said that as we believe in 'Service to humankind is service to God' the decision to volunteer in the catering service was taken by the church and all its departments were involved in the voluntary services.

"We want our beloved returnees to feel at home while staying at the institutional quarantine centres and returned to their respective villages safe and healthy", Rev Letpu Kipgen said, adding, “It is our pleasure to have the opportunity to serve them through our voluntary service”.

“Apart from our voluntary service, we keep all the inmates at various IQCs in our prayer for their safety and good health,” the pastor added.
