A joint team of Lilong police along with members of ‘Anjuman’ (a civil body) arrested five vehicle lifters and recovered one car and two ‘Royal Enfield’ motorcycles on Sunday.
District police reported that a team of Lilong police station led by its officer-in-charge, Oinam Ajit assisted by assistant sub-inspector, L Tikendro Singh along with some members of Anjuman arrested two vehicle lifters from Lilong Chingjao at about 1 pm of Sunday.
The two lifters have been identified as Md Islao Rahaman alias Momocha , 25, son of Abdul Hakim of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai and Md Mujid Khan ,21, son of Mohammed Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
Police recovered one Maruti Alto car, silky silver in colour, bearing registration number MN05A-6996 from their possession. On follow up action, another three vehicle lifters namely Ziaur Rahaman alias Yaima alias Sirajuddin , 43, son of late Md Rahimuddin of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai; Md Illiyas , 24,son of late Ayub Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai and Md Shahbuddin alias Iboyai, 55, son of late Md Abdur Rahaman of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai were arrested.
The joint team also recovered two ‘Royal Enfields’ bearing registration number MN 01AH-4492 gun metal grey in colour and MN 01AE-0040 red in colour from their possession.
A regular FIR has been registered at Lilong police station for further investigation.
It is said that the whole operation was conducted under the supervision of superintendent of police, Thoubal district, S Ibomcha.
