The Manipur government has requested the Home Affairs Ministry to issue a directive to NSCN-IM to relocate its camps from Manipur to Nagaland.

State Chief Secretary J Suresh Babu, in a letter addressed to Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, said that the NSCN-IM unauthorised camps located in Manpur has become a subject of social tension all the time.

“This issue was brought to the notice of the MHA in the past. Of late, a large number of civil society organistions (CSOs) are openly invited to these camps and these videos are put in social media inviting criticism from the public and causing embarrassment to the state government,” said Suresh Babu in the letter writen to the MHA on May 14.

Suresh Babu, in the letter, brought to the notice of the MHA that the state government is concerned about the issue as many valley-based CSOs are raising open objection against the open illegal activities of the NSCN-IM.

Inspite of the fact that the ceasefire agreement between the NSCN-IM and Centre does not extend to the state of Manipur, these camps exist in the jurisdiction of the state under the name to take note of camps, he said.

The chief secretary said that the state government has raised objections on many occasions for allowing such unauthorised camps. But, central security forces which are overseeing the camps failed to restrain them (NSCN-IM) from illegal activities, he added.

The recent developments of frequent visits of CSOs to these locations could have been prevented.

“I am directed to request the MHA to take serious note of this and direct the Army and Assam Rifles to control the activities of the NSCN-IM and also prevent public and CSOs from visiting these camps,” Suresh Babu said.
