Farmers in Imphal East were taught how to carry out double cropping during a one-day agricultural awareness programme held on Saturday.
The farming awareness programme was organized by Chingarel Wangma Loukol Lup under the aegis of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana for the 2019-2020 at Khurai Konsam leikai, Imphal East on Saturday.
Speaking to media, assistant project officer, state department of agriculture, Kh Nimaichand said the training cum awareness programme was conducted on ‘transfer of new agricultural technology for double cropping’.
During the programme, farmers were made aware of the proper use of fertilizers and the recommended fertilizers which is health and ecosystem friendly.
Nimaichand said most of the farmers are not aware of the proper use of fertilizer and due to the reason farmers have been facing the problems of insects and pests. During the programme, farmer were given information when to put fertilizer and how to conduct double cropping to produce maximum yields, he added.
The farmers were also taught how to increase the fertility of soil with straw.
Nimaichand appealed to the farmers to follow the guidelines on using fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides for a healthy and eco-friendly farming.
