Assam's COVID-19 death toll rises to 32

Five more COVID-19 patients succumbed to the infection on Friday.

The coronavirus death toll in Assam has risen to 32 on Friday with five new fatalities, official sources said.

According to an update posted by Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Twitter, four patients succumbed to the infection at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) while one patient succumbed to COVID 19 at IITG COVID care centre on Friday.

"Very sad to inform that four #COVID patients - Sri Rakhal Deb (42), Sri Ramesh Kayastha (68), Sri Sukhamay Bhowmik (72), Smt Arahi Baruah Saikia (70); admitted at GMCH  ICU succumbed to the infection. My heartfelt condolences to their families," the health minister tweeted.

Sarma said the 53-year-old patient who succumbed to COVID 19 at IITG COVID care centre on Friday was asymptomatic with no comorbidities. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed, the health minister said in another tweet.

"With a heavy heart I inform you that Shri Hareswar Nath, 53 years old, a non-symptomatic patient with no co morbidities succumbed to COVID 19  at IITG COVID care centre. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP," Sarma tweeted.

On Thursday, Assam reported 568 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state's total tally to 14,600, including 9,147 recovered cases and 5,423 active cases.
