Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Manipur State Pensioners’ Union (MSPU) staged a sit-in protest on Thursday at Singjamei Chingamakhong, Imphal, demanding implementation of the 7th Pay.
The government's failure to implement 7th Pay in the state despite the long demand of the employees for the 7th Pay is very unfortunate, said president of MSPU M Rajendra while speaking to the media.
He said a memorandum was signed between the Manipur Government Services’ Federation, Manipur Secretariat Services Association, MSPU and the state government on June 8, 2018 for full implementation of 7th Pay but the government is only giving three per cent DR and DA instead of 17 per cent.
Government employees and pensioners excluding those who are working for essential services and in quarantine centres have even launched lock-out strike since Monday, the government remains deaf ear to their demands, added Rajendra.
The president appealed to the government to bring an amicable solution by fully implementing the 7th Pay, considering the financial issues faced by the employee and pensioners.
