100-bedded COVID care centre in Jiribam to be operational soon

The proposed 100-bedded COVID care will be established in Model School, Harinagar with necessary infrastructure.

The Manipur technical expert team of COVID-19 led by Dr S Sucheta, who was on a three-day visit to Jiribam, assessed the pandemic containment measures in the district.

After a discussion and a meeting with the district COVID management committee with health experts on continuing essential services at Jiribam district hospital, it was decided to activate 100-bedded COVID care centre at Model School, Harinagar.

The high-level team interacted with Malemnganba, the deputy commissioner of Jiribam; E Okendro, CMO Jiribam, SP Jiribam and other key health officials. They discussed strategies to meet the requirements so as to prevent new transmission through strict infection control and containment measures, testing of symptomatic people in community, isolating and admission in COVID care centre.

The proposed 100-bedded COVID care will be established in Model School, Harinagar with necessary infrastructure. It is being refurbished to make it operational by July 13. Model School is located at a distance from other villages and the centre may be activated at the earliest.

Professor AK Brogen has scientifically analyzed the possible ways of cluster spread and the team had also suggested corrective measures to prevent any further new cases.

Dr Y Premchandra, deputy director Public Health and State COVID trainer has conducted a series of group discussion, meetings and training with the stakeholders, doctors and staff. The state team has reoriented the newly formed district COVID committee and also reviewed their planning and present work. Dr Lenin, the newly appointed DSO has been briefed by Professor AK Brogen and the state team.

Jiribam has also started the COVID antigen testing on July 8. With this, results can be made available within a few minutes. The testing team has been supervised by Shyamkeshore Sharma, state IDSP microbiologist.

It may be mentioned that with an order from the secretariat, the health department, a technical team from Imphal reached Jiribam on July 7 and held a meeting on essential services during COVID pandemic.

The District COVID crisis management committee including DC as chairman, consisting of CMO, SP, DSO, education etc will be formed immediately and activate regular meetings at least once a week. Further, a different committee will be formed under the chief medical officer to tackle COVID pandemic.

In connection with 100 bedded COVID care centre, the department of PWD, electricity and experts of state health team have designed the layout. Necessary budget will be prepared for the same. Steps for construction have to be taken up at the earliest by fulfilling all guidelines including IP, doffing and donning room and staff quarter. The staff quarantine centre will be separately prepared in the school complex, the meeting resolved.
