The Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has condemned the Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) for allegedly trying to defame IPAK vice president Thangjam Joshikanta by “releasing wrong information” to the media.

IPAK conducted a social information survey about MGNREGS and found many irregularities, including a person holding two job-cards, opening bank accounts without the knowledge of the account holder and drawing money from it without their consent, said a release issued by publicity secretary, RK Pritam.

It was found that the pradhan and members instructed the account holders to give them the money that had been deposited into their accounts, it said.

Since MSPP had not taken any action against the wrongdoings of implementing agencies like zila parishad, pradhan and members, IPAK was of the view that MSPP existed only to protect such wrongdoings, it said.

The release alleged that there were issues regarding expansion of road by zila parishad of Keirao Mangting GP without the consent of land record holders. IPAK also accused the member of Kongthoujam GP Ward No VI, S Shanti, block development officer, Samson and gram rojgar sevak, Irani of inefficiency in their work and alleged the MSPP for being a mute spectator.

IPAK was of the view that the wrong information stated to the media by general secretary of MSPP, N Jadumani in order to defame IPAK was an attempt to cover-up the wrongdoings of MSPP and that he along with the implementing agencies were depriving the rights of the beneficiaries, the release stated.

MSPP should know that the role of the civil voluntary organisations was clearly defined in the guidelines of MGNREGS, it continued.
IPAK also appealed to the government to seriously look into the complaints regarding MGNREGS, it added.
