The United Zou Organisation (UZO), the apex body of Zou tribe in Manipur as well as its constituent body, the Zou Youth Organization and the Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi stated that an accused is not a convict until proven guilty and expressed unhappiness against a news item published by a local daily concerning former ADC chairman, Lhukhosei Zou.

A joint release stated that the apex body is peeved at the “unwanted scenes created by some Imphal Valley based NGOs and self-styled anti-drug campaigners instigated by vested individual, state actors and unscrupulous politicians” as reported in the news item. The body is irked to learn that even after the investigation reports and charge sheets were submitted, court’s proceeding was manipulated by officials of the government in connivance with the misled organisations, it stated.

Let the law takes its own course and punish the guilty as per the law of the land, without any undue interference from any section of the society. UZO will not remain a mute spectator at such discrimination and subjugation during trial, the release added.
