Manipur's 200 bedded Covid-dedicated hospital constructed at Kiyamgei in Imphal East will be inaugurated on December 10, and the Covid testing laboratory set up at Modern College in Imphal East will be relocated soon, state Health director Dr K Rajo said on Saturday.

Due to the installation of the state's Covid testing laboratory inside the college campus, the college is yet to start physical classes though the admission process has been completed.

"Request has been made to JNIMS for providing a space for the relocation of the laboratory. We are very sure that they will be providing a space very soon," said Dr Rajo.

Dr Rajo was replying to a query raised by media regarding the halting of academic session of the college owing to the functioning of the Covid testing lab inside the college campus. "We will surely find a alternative space for the relocation of the lab. For the time being, the lab will be functional where it is now," he said.

Regarding the Covid situation of Manipur, Dr Rajo said the department still continue its preventive routine such as contact tracing, testing, vaccination drives and treatment.

"We are ready to face any wave. Public need not to feel apprehensive. However there is the need to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour during election campaign and festivals or any gatherings," said Dr Rajo.

Get the second jab of the Covid vaccine which is the best preventive measures, the director said appealing to the eligible public to get fully vaccinated.

When asked about the low number of vaccination rate in Manipur, state mission director of NHM Dr Shyamjai replied, "vaccination is purely volunteer process. We cannot force someone to get vaccinated."
