Assam’s COVID-19 death toll rise to 21 as five more patients succumbed to coronavirus infection

While one patient passed away at the Tezpur Medical College, the other four succumbed to their critical infections at the COVID ICU of the Gauhati Medical and Hospital (GMCH).

Assam on Wednesday registered five COVID-19 related deaths, taking the state's total toll to 21, official sources said.

While one patient passed away at the Tezpur Medical College, the other four succumbed to their critical infections earlier in the morning today between 2 am and 5 am at COVID ICU, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on Twitter.

The health minister condoled the demise of the COVID-19 victims and said he is sad to see young lives being lost. He reiterated that all must adhere to guidelines being repeatedly given - wearing mask, social distance and not going out unless very important.

"Condolences. Sad to inform that Jitendra Prasad (30) from Majbat, Udalguri admitted on July 7 at Tezpur Medical College, with features of Septicaemia in shock with history of herbal medication, became victim of #COVID19. So sad to see young lives being lost!" Sarma tweeted.

"My heartfelt condolences to families and relatives of four more victims of #COVID19. These are trying times, and we all must adhere to guidelines being repeatedly given - wearing mask, social distance and not going out unless very important," the health minister said in another tweet.

As per the update shared by the health minister, Safikul Rahman (60) of Hidayatpur in Guwahati, Romoni Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi, Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Khahilipara in Dispur, and Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh in Guwahati were admitted to the Covid Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Gauhati Medical and Hospital (GMCH).

"They succumbed to their critical infections earlier in the morning today between 2 am and 5 am. They all were on invasive ventilation, had severe pneumonia, urosepsis, and septic shock", the health minister informed.

Assam had recorded 16 COVID-19 related deaths till Tuesday night, while 814 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the state, taking the state's total tally to 13,336 on Tuesday.
