The allegation that MLA Khurai along with his worker assaulted workers of National People’s Party (NPP) intending candidate is baseless and the issue was solved on November 22 itself after the incident occurred, said president of Khurai Ward Number III/I Md Feiruddin on Friday.

Feiruddin told media that on November 22, the committee of four polling stations of Khurai assembly constituency were preparing for Ningol Chakouba festival which was to be celebrated on the next day at Khomidok Heikrumakhong campus, Imphal East.

At about 11 pm of November 22 while they were preparing for the function at the campus, some of the NPP workers came and tried to erect their party flag at the campus. When he asked them not to erect the flag as they were going to organise a function for Ningol chakouba, the NPP workers tried to forcibly erect the flag, Feiruddin alleged.

Tension rose among them and the NPP workers started breaking the BJP flag which was already erected inside the campus, he said. When he along with some of the BJP workers tried to round up the NPP workers, they escaped from the spot, he further said. Later, he reported the incident to local MLA who instantly came at the spot to take stock of the matter, he added.

“The NPP intending candidate also reached the spot and apologised to local MLA for the incident. Later the issue was solved on the same night,” he added.

However, NPP intending candidate raised allegations on the next day that local MLA along with his workers assaulted NPP workers, which is baseless, he said. The people of Khurai in the area also condemned baseless allegations against the local MLA, he added.
