Manipur to face Nagaland in Santosh Trophy qualifying round at Khuman Lampak

The much anticipated Manipur and Nagaland match of the 75th Hero National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy 2021-22 (NE Zone Qualifying Round) will kickstart from Sunday at 9.30 am at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak.

Though congregation of large numbers of spectators is still not permitted due to Covid-19 protocol inside the stadium, the AIFF has given its go ahead signal to open the Eastern and Southern gates of the Main Stadium for the spectators without ticketing, provided that all spectators abide SOPs guidelines.

The remaining gates, including VIP Gallery will not be permitted for entry except for match officials and teams.

It is worth mentioning that Manipur won the 58th edition of Santosh Trophy title in 2002-03 held in Imphal beating Kerala. 

AMFA General Secretary, L Jyotirmoy Roy while speaking to reporters said, teams from Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland have reached Imphal for the Championship.

With the permission from YAS Department to use the ground, the AMFA along with some voluntary organisation have prepared the ground, but not upto the standard ground of I-League, and the Match Commissioner have given his approval for the match. All debris VIP galleries have been cleaned.

The state government also cut off the shrubs alongside the street leading to Main Stadium and potholes have been mended.

He further said, all players and officials have undergone the mandatory Covid 19 test and the players will be allowed to have practice once the results are known from tomorrow. The SAI RC authority have also granted us permission to use the Artificial Turf at Takyel in addition to Artificial Turf at Lamlong Thongkhong for players practice sessions. Buses for teams have also been arranged from the state government side.

It can be mentioned that the second ground on Sunday will have Mizoram taking on Tripura at 2.30 pm.
