O Joy mocks 'Go to Village', 'Go to Hills' missions

The Go to village and Go to Hills are mere a programmes introduced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh to lure the public for the sake of vote banks, Joy said.

Veteran politician O Joy on Saturday mocked the two missions of the BJP government, Go to Hills and Go to Village stating that they were mere schemes to get votes.

Addressing a thanks giving ceremony of the the Panchayat Raj of Langthabal AC by the Langthabal Kendra Rural Area Development and Welfare Organisation for their contribution in various developmental activities, the MLA said, "Go to village and Go to Hills are mere a programmes introduced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh to lure the public for the sake of vote banks."

The function was held at Kakwa Pukhri Achouba Community Hall, Imphal West.

Joy pointed out that go to village and go to hills are a great initiative. However, when it comes to implementation it does not meet its purpose, he said adding, "A bad singer makes a famous song worse."

He also pointed out that taking up various development progress in the rural area has been a motto for every government since long back.

However social changes and revolution without a proper enforcement of legislation, development is not possible, he said pointing out the need of empowering the local bodies such as Panchayat Raj and ADC for development in rural areas and hill districts.

Issues such as unrelease of wages for job card holders, irregularities in distribution of NFSA rice and failure to protect and preserve paddy and wet lands are a clear example of not empowering the local bodies, he added.

Joy lastly lauded the officials and teams of the Panchayat Raj of Langthabal AC for their great effort in the various welfare programmes.
