Even though the number of cases of COVID-19 is increasing rapidly in the state, Nagaland’s Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department officials are of the opinion that “there is no need for a total lockdown as of now in the state”.

The officials felt that since the cases of COVID-19 are reported from quarantine centres which lodge returnees the state does not need to be in a hurry to go for a total lockdown.

“There is no community spread till today in our state,” said one of the officials from the Health department.

However, the Health department said that there is a “need for maintaining discipline among returnees in quarantine centres in order to contain the spread of the virus”. The department felt that the rise of the number of positive cases of COVID-19 has been witnessed among quarantine centres due to lack of disciple among the inmates.

One of the officials said that a birthday was celebrated in one of the quarantine centres in the state recently.

Meanwhile, Nagaland reported 35 cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Health minister Pangnyu Phom informed that 32 cases were reported in the morning and three cases of COVID-19 in the evening.

With this update, the State’s tally of COVID-19 has reached 625 on Monday. 394 are active cases while 231 cases have recovered and discharged.
