PPCM demands state government to control price hike of daily commodities
A release by PPCM stated that amid the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic, the state government and Manipur Consumers Clubs have turned deaf ears to the grievances of the public.
Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) on Thursday demanded the state government and the authorities concerned to give necessary attention and take up immediate measures against the price rise of daily commodities.
A release by PPCM stated that amid the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic, the state government and Manipur Consumers Clubs have turned deaf ears to the grievances of the public. Urging the authorities to ensure the proper conduct of the Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, and Weight and Measurement Department of Affairs, Manipur consumer Rule 1989, it stated that the delay of the necessary actions will affect the economy of Manipur.
Recalling the state’s implementation of fixed prices of daily necessary goods, it asserted that the state government had failed to take up any corresponding measures thereafter. Alleging that the non-locals are holding a tight grip over the economy of the state, it added that PPCM will initiate a drive to check the illegal price hikes and other such misconduct.
Urging the people of Manipur to discourage such misconducts of the non-local merchants, it appealed to the public to opt for indigenous products while shopping for Ningol Chakouba and other occasions, in order to support and promote the indigenous market of the indigenous people and save the economy of Manipur. Asserting that a non-cooperation movement needs to be initiated, PPCM further appealed to the public to support the movement, it further added.
