70 more test COVID-19 positive in Manipur, two die

Manipur has 844 COVID-19 active cases as of Wednesday.

Manipur on Wednesday recorded 70 new COVID-19 positive cases, pushing the state's tally to 1,23,473 while the death toll mounted to 1,917 with more new fatalities, according to the latest update by the state health department. The positivity rate is 3.5 per cent.

The two COVID-19 fatalities recorded on Wednesday are from Imphal East and Imphal West. One had co-morbidities and one was vaccinated with the first dose, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room. 

As per the release, Imphal West and Imphal East continued to report the highest number of new COVID-19 cases with 31 and 20 positive cases respectively. Four cases were reported each from Ukhrul and Churachandpur, three each from Kakching and Bishnupur, two from Thoubal and one each from Chandel, Kamjong and Kangpokpi.

All precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

The state also recorded 97 new recoveries, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 1,20,712. The recovery rate is 97.76 per cent, the release added.

Meanwhile, a total of 508 D-type Oxygen Cylinders and 148 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours.

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered vaccine had reached 19,15,974 (first dose: 12,44,261  second dose: 6,71,713).
