Wangkhemcha Shyamjai is new AMWJU president

Eight standing committee members were also elected out of 11 candidates contesting in the election.

Wangkhemcha Shyamjai of Kangleipakki Meira, a daily evening newspaper has been elected as the new president of the All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) on Saturday.

The union held its election for the new office bearers for the term 2021 to 2023 at Manipur Press Club in Imphal. The election began around 8 am and concluded at 2 pm.

Shyamjai was elected as the new president of the union with a total of 173 votes, beating his lone competitor former president of AMWJU Bijoy Kakchingtabam of Poknapham who received 148 votes.

Eight standing committee members were also elected out of 11 candidates contesting in the election.

Among the standing committee, Athokpam Jiten (Sangai Express) led the votes with 183 votes, followed by Arishjona Longjam (The Peoples Chronicle) with 176 votes, Achom Binod (Impact TV) with 175 votes, Sanjitkumar (Eikhoigee Panthung) with 161 votes, Laishram Pritam (Liklam) with 157, Khwairakpam  Naoba (ISTV)  with 154, Achom Priyo (The Morning Bell) with 151 and Ayekpam Birjit (Kangla Pao) with 150 votes.
