Call for peace, free and fair AMWJU election

The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Election for the term 2021-2023 will be held on October 23.

Returning officer (RO) of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Election Thursday called for peace, free and fair election during the AMWJU Election for the term 2021-2023 to be held on October 23.

The RO Th Ibohal, who is also the former advocate general while speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Imphal appealed to all the candidates to refrain from organising election related feast, parties and stick to the model code of conduct.

The voting process will start from 8am and continue till 2pm at the Manipur Press Club premises, counting of votes will be done on the same day from 3pm and the result will also be declared on the same day, he informed.

AMWJU members, who are eligible for voting, will be given the opportunity of their voting rights if they are present at the Manipur Press Club before 2 pm by extending the voting timing if necessary, added the RO.

Media is regarded as the fourth pillar of democracy and AMWJU has high profile among the various journalist's union in India, he said, adding, "Let's make the AMWJU Election a model election."

He further stated that two candidates will be contesting for the president post of AMWJU and 11 candidates will be contesting for the eight standing committee members.

Ningthoukhongjam Satyajeet Singh has been appointed as the presiding officer and Oinam Ibochouba alias Imo and Sobhapati Samon have been appointed as the polling officers, added Ibohal.
