Illegal structures at protected site in Imphal East demolished

A demolition drive was carried out at the Manipur Archaeology protected site at Wangkhei Dolai Thaba Chingu Khubam on Thursday.

The Imphal East district administration with the support of the district police on Thursday demolished illegal structures at the Manipur Archaeology protected site at Wangkhei Dolai Thaba Chingu Khubam, Imphal East.

The demolition drive was carried out following an order issued by the Imphal East deputy commissioner after acknowledging that the protected site were encroached by three individuals, as per finding of the demarcation process.

Following the demolition, the Wangkhei Dolai Thaba Chingu Khubam Thougal Lup (WDTCKTL) expressed their gratitude to the state government for taking up initiatives to safefuard the protection site.

WDTCKTL secretary A Budha Luwang said that their association in collaboration with the State Archaeology department will be taking up various initiatives to preserve and construct the heritage site.

According to a gazette notification issued by the Art and Culture department on October 21, 2005, it had declared the site of Wangkhei Dolai Thaba Chingu Khubam as protected historical monument in the interest of the public.
