Paddy field owners should stop collecting harvested paddy from tenant farmers as they have been suffering due to insufficient rainfall this year, Socialist Students' Union Manipur (SSUM) said on Wednesday.
Speaking in a press meet held at the office of SSUM at Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai, SSUM president Soraijam Yaima said that the organisation in its general body meeting decided to prohibit the paddy owners from collecting paddy from the tenant farmers for this year. It has also decided to hold a meeting in connection with the matter, he added.
SSUM also decided to urge the state government and authorities of schools and colleges to provide better and sufficient infrastructure at educational institutions. As students have been promoted to higher classes due to the pandemic, the number of admissions of students is increasing in schools and colleges, he said. Therefore, there is a requirement to improve the infrastructure, he added.
Concerning the forthcoming examinations, SSUM has also decided to conduct meetings with educationists of the Council and Board of colleges and schools respectively, he added.
Vice-chancellor of Manipur University and HOD of Manipuri department of Manipur University has given assurance that there will be no further issues, Yaima said. The general body meeting also appointed eight new leaders of SSUM, he added.
