The Communist Party of India, Central Office on Saturday stated that it denounced the hurried corporatisation of Ordnance factories into seven new defence companies, calling it an "anti-national" step since “it will weaken the security and defence preparedness of the country.”
CPI Central office general secretary D Raja hassaid that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 15 inaugurated the new defence companies ignoring opposition from all quarters, including CPI, AITUC and the defence civilian employees’ union, demolishing the 220 year-old existing Indian Ordnance Factories as part of the RSS-BJP government’s privatisation spree, stated a release.
Recalling that all the Ordnance factories were set up at different point of time and have played a vital role in augmenting the defence preparedness of the country, it stated that the present step for conversion into non-viable corporations from October 1 is "anti-national" and will weaken the security and defence preparedness of the country.
Congratulating the four lakh defence civilian employees, their families members and the retired employees for their protests against the government’s step and boycotting the live telecast of the inaugural ceremony, CPI urges the Government of India to reconsider the decision, since corporatisation aimed at subsequent privatisation of Ordnance Factories will have serious impact on the defence of the country and the ultimate sufferer will be the Armed Forces, it stated.
