Manipur government intensifying War on Drugs: Chief Minister N Biren

Three drug peddlers were arrested and drugs seized from their possession by a NAB team along Imphal-Dimapur national highway on Friday.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday said that a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) arrested three drug peddlers, as the state government intensified crackdown against drug mafias as a part of the war on drugs campaign.

Taking to social media, the chief minister said that as a part of his government’s War on Drugs campaign, tonnes of drugs worth over thousands of crores of Rupees have been seized in the last few years.

"A team of NAB arrested 3 individuals in possession of 50 soap cases of Heroin No 4. As we intensify the crackdown against the drug mafias under the War on Drugs campaign, tonnes of drugs which are worth over thousands of crores of Rupees have been seized in the last few years," Biren captioned a picture he posted on Twitter.

The three, including a couple, were arrested from Koujengleima, Sekmai along Imphal-Dimapur national highway at about 5.30 pm Tuesday, police said.

The peddlers have been identified as one Helkhomang Mate, 27, son of Onkholun Mate, residence of K Moulsang Village, Tengnoupal District; Nemneikim Haokip, 29, and her husband Yaangkholet Haokip, 41, son of Thangkhopao Haokip residence of Molnom Village, Chandel District.

The police seized 625 grams Heroin No 4, one four wheeler (Hyundai i10 grand) bearing registration number MN-01G/6826, three mobile phones and three Aadhaar cards from their possession.

A case has been registered at NAB police station for further investigation, the police added.
