India reports 16,862 new COVID-19 cases

The country’s active caseload fell to 2,03,678, lowest in 216 days, while the death toll mounted to 4,51,435.

India on Friday reported 16,862 new cases in the last 24 hours that pushed the total COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country to 3,40,20,730, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

The country’s active caseload fell to 2,03,678, lowest in 216 days. The active cases account for less than one per cent of the total cases, currently at 0.60 per cent; lowest since March 2020.

The recovery rate currently is 98.07 per cent; highest since March 2020 with the report of 19,391 recoveries that pushed the total recoveries to 3,33,82,100.

The death toll mounted to 4,51,435 as 246 more people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, the ministry stated.

The Weekly Positivity Rate (1.42%) remained less than three per cent for the last 112 days, while the daily positivity rate (1.43%) is less than three per cent for the last 46 days.

Meanwhile, 58,76,64,525 total tests have been conducted and 96,82,20,997 vaccine doses have been administered across the country so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, a release stated.
