India records highest single-day spike of 22,771 COVID-19 cases

With this spike, India's COVID-19 tally has now touched 6,48,315 while the death toll increased to 18,655.

India has recorded its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 22,771 new cases since Friday, official sources said on Saturday.

This is the second consecutive day when over 20,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported. As many as 442 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours, as per the latest data from the Union Health Ministry.

With this spike, India's COVID-19 tally has now touched 6,48,315 while the death toll increased to 18,655.

With 6,48,315 COVID-19 cases, India now has 2,35,433 active cases while the number of recoveries stands at 3,94,2267.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state in India with 1,92,990 COVID-19 cases and 8,376 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 1,02,721 coronavirus cases and 1,385 deaths and Delhi with 94,695 coronavirus cases and 2,923 deaths due to the pandemic.

India is the fourth worst-affected country in the world preceded by Russia, Brazil and USA. However, with 6.48 lakh coronavirus cases, India has inched closer to Russia’s tally of coronavirus cases with 667,883, according to Worldometers.

Globally, 11,197,281 of coronavirus cases have been reported till date and the death toll touches 529,197. The total number of recoveries stands at 6,342,946, as per the latest data from the Worldometers. United States of America continues to be the worst-affected country in the world with 2,890,588 cases, followed by Brazil with 1,543,341 coronavirus cases.
