A release by JCILPS has stated that the state has a habit of enlisting ineligible non-locals in the voter list, breaking the norms of Inner Line Permit system. Such irregularities had occurred in the past state elections and the authority concerned must take preventive measures, otherwise the state would face a huge negative outcome from it.

Reacting on the comment made by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi in removing non-locals from the voter list of BJP Mandal office ward no.5, Thangal Bazaar during the Congress regime, it stated that the comment should not be taken lightly.

There are many booth level officers (BLOs) who regularly enrol ineligible non-locals in the voter list for their personal interest and even the concerned MLAs are supporting them. For the sake of the future of Manipur, this kind of activities should be banned immediately, the release stated, adding that Imphal city would face a similar problem like Jiribam where a non-local became the representative of the assembly constituency.
